Review: Prayers on the Psalms

Category Book Reviews
Date January 19, 2011

A little book (95 x 130mm) but a treasure if you are comfortable praying in the language of yesteryear. Although taken from the Scottish Psalter of 1595, the introduction (well worth reading) explains that these prayers based on the Psalms date back even earlier, to a French Psalter of 1567 with ‘a prayer at the end of each psalm by M. Augustine Marlorat’. A useful bibliography followed by ‘A note on the imprecatory Psalms’ which sets the wording of these prayers in context. With this in mind, the prayers themselves are as fresh as when they were written, a joy to use.
